STO is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to serve as Director, Apprenticeship Training, Curriculum Standards and Examinations. Reporting to the Deputy Registrar and Chief Operating Officer, this senior leadership role will guide the development and modernization of Ontario’s apprenticeship training standards, curriculum standards, and certification examinations.
The Director will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing apprenticeship standards and certification assessments that are responsive to industry needs and aligned with Ontario’s regulatory framework and national Red Seal standards.
This role also represents Ontario in national forums, including the Interprovincial Standards Examination Committee (ISEC), contributing to interjurisdictional collaboration and the ongoing development of Red Seal examinations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership for apprenticeship training standards and curriculum development
- Oversee the development, validation, and quality assurance of certification examinations
- Ensure standards and assessments remain current, industry aligned, and responsive to labour market needs
- Introduce innovative and more agile approaches to standards and exam development
- Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team responsible for standards and examination development
- Represent Ontario in national forums related to apprenticeship and Red Seal examinations
- Build strong relationships with industry partners, unions, training providers, and subject matter experts
- Provide expert advice to executive leadership on apprenticeship standards, curriculum modernization, and exam integrity
About You
You are a strategic leader with experience in apprenticeship training, workforce development, education, certification systems, or a comparable regulatory environment.
- Significant experience in apprenticeship systems, curriculum standards, training programs, or certification frameworks
- Experience leading complex programs or initiatives in a public sector, regulatory, or education environment
- Knowledge of assessment development and certification examinations
- Strong leadership and team development experience
- Experience working with industry partners, labour organizations, training institutions, and subject matter experts
- Strong communication and executive advisory skills
- Experience with Red Seal standards or national apprenticeship initiatives would be considered an asset.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $123,534.84 to $167,781.43, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Starting salary will be based on relevant skills, experience, and internal equity.
